Turn your moves into meals
- Wits University
What if your daily workout could help feed a child in need? From 10–27 March 2026, Witsies have an opportunity to turn physical activity into meaningful impact.

The Wits Department of Exercise Science and Sport Medicine (DESSM) has partnered with Technogym to get as many Witsies as possible to participate in the Let’s Move for a Better World global challenge. The challenge connects fitness communities around the world to an impactful purpose: helping to provide 1,000,000 school meals for children in need through the United Nations World Food Programme.
Here’s how it works: every time you move - whether you walk, run, cycle, lift weights, or train in the gym - you generate MOVEs, a measurement of your physical activity. For every 2,000 MOVEs collected globally, one meal will be donated to a child who needs it. Accumulating approximately 2000 Moves requires 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity, about 5 times a week.
This means your workout doesn’t just benefit your health, it can help bring nourishment to children.
Getting involved is simple:
-
Download the Technogym app, register, and join the “Let’s Move for a Better World” challenge under the challenges section. Your MOVEs can be tracked through your phone, entered manually, or recorded using a wearable fitness device.
To make it even easier for everyone to participate, the DESSM gym at Education Campus will be open and accessible for free during the challenge period, giving staff and students the perfect space to stay active and contribute to the cause.
Each participant will be issued a heart rate tracking to use while exercising at the DESS gym. One of the friendly staff will be assist if guidance is required.
And if a little friendly competition motivates you, there’s an extra incentive: a prize will be awarded to the participant who accumulates the most MOVEs.
Join the challenge, get active, and help turn your moves into meals.
